Tutoring

One-on-one help can be very beneficial.   I have seen very bright kids get lost because they miss out on one key fact during classroom presentations.  I'm here to help.
Either bring in your schoolwork to work on or I can find additional material to help you understand the topic.  I have plenty of text books on hand to find supplemental material.

Changes for 2020-2021 school year:

I realize that this semester comes with a lot of uncertainty due to the virus.  I would love to help you with changing needs as they come up.

Hour sessions will last for 55 minutes.  I will use the extra five minutes of each hour to make notes and to prepare a plan for the next session.  In this way I can take back-to-back appointments and still keep track of each individual well.

Rates of 2020-21 school year:

Scheduled sessions:

Homework help sessions:  $40/hour

(This includes all students who need help with a school assignment.)

Independent tutoring:  $45/hour

(This includes students who are learning independently or in a homeschool setting where I am the main teacher.  This also includes SAT/ACT prep sessions.)

Last minute or 'emergency' sessions and weekend sessions:

        add $5/hour

Small group tutoring may be an option for students working on the same subject at approximately the same level.  If you are interested in this, we can discuss rates.

Math Assessments can be done for $50.  See the Math Assessment link above.

Tutoring can be homework help, enrichment, or guided instruction - it all depends on what you need.

No Gimmicks or Tricks -- just lots of problem solving.
I would rather you do well on the test because you actually know how to solve the problems.   Yes, some time-saving strategies are helpful, but understanding the mathematics is key.

My preference is for you to do practice tests at home in a timed setting and then come in to go over your results with me so that we can discuss the ones that confuse you.  That way we don't waste tutoring time on things you already know.  However doing tests together can also be quite beneficial as I can give helpful hints as we go along.
  • I accept checks and cash and Venmo.  I prefer to keep it informal and accept payment at the end of each tutoring session.  I understand that not having a pre-payment policy makes cancellation and no-shows more likely.  I hope that my clients will be fair to me and realize that I have planned my personal schedule and my other tutoring appointments around their appointment.  If you cancel or no-show I cannot change my plans so I lose out on some other opportunity.  So please, be considerate and give advance notice if you can't make an appointment.

  • It is extremely important for the student to be on board with the decision to get tutoring.  Otherwise, the tutoring will likely be nonproductive.

  • The student should come to tutoring on time and prepared.  If the student is late, no extra time will be given at the end of the session.  (However, if I have no conflict later, then I may work with you if you let me know you are running late.)
